[Satnews] Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) has received the Innovation in Technology Award from UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).

David Prodger, the British Consul General in Miami, and Pru Ashby, Vice President for London & Partners, presented the award to Harris at the GREAT Business Innovation Awards, part of BritWeek Miami 2016. The Business Innovation Awards recognize innovative British companies doing business in Florida, and Florida companies making a positive contribution to the UK, and individuals and organizations that help further the economic partnership between Florida and the UK.

Prodger said that the award celebrates “the investment that Harris Corporation has made in the United Kingdom, and particularly their support to our armed forces through the Bowman Program.”

Harris’ presence in the UK spans nearly 30 years and today the company has nearly 600 employees in the UK, with major facilities in Winnersh, Basingstoke, Brighton, Aberdeen, and Norwich. Since 2001, Harris has supported the UK Ministry of Defence’s Bowman Tactical Radio Program, considered one of the most important land-based military projects in recent UK history. As a result of the Bowman partnership, Harris has set up manufacturing, testing, and R&D facilities in several UK locations helping the company meet critical communications needs for the region.

“We are very honored to be selected for the Innovation in Technology from UKTI, which reflects our commitment to maintaining a strong partnership with the UK,” said Dana Mehnert, senior vice president, chief global business development officer. “Our dedicated employees in the UK are central to our ability to provide customers there and around the world with the most advanced communications technology and the highest levels of support.”
