The Level 1B products are made available with global coverage and as datasets over selected geographical regions as required for the validation activities.

Sentinel-3 supports the monitoring of the Marine Environment with products, including ocean color (OLCI), altimetry (SRAL/MWR) and sea surface temperature (SLSTR). Sentinel-3 marine data will provide operational and synoptic information about the marine physical state and dynamics, about marine ecosystems, water quality and pollution, and sea ice. The information is used for the management of marine resources, coastal and marine environment monitoring, maritime safety, and climate monitoring.

EUMETSAT Remote Sensing Scientist, Ewa Kwiatkowska, said, "OLCI's data provide the important biological component towards the understanding of Earth's living oceans and coastal and inland-water environments. These data enable synoptic and continuous monitoring, forecasting and alerting on the impacts and feedbacks of marine ecosystems and biogeochemistry. The information supports European maritime and environmental policies as well as the blue economy with many industries: fisheries, aquaculture, water supply, off-shore operations and tourism, to name a few."
