Hughes + Texas State Agency...Bandwidth Assistance For The Little Guys...600 Homes + Small Offices

[SatNews] This entails a wide range of labor services including site surveys, very small aperture terminal (VSAT) installation, antenna reinstallation and relocation assistance.

Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), provider of broadband satellite solutions and services, today announced it has been awarded a contract modification by the State of Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) to expand its offerings under the Texas Agency Network Next Generation (Tex-AN NG) Communications Technology Services program. Under the modification, Hughes can offer bandwidth tokens for small office/home office (SOHO) Internet; redeployable satellites for Fixed Satellite Services (FSS); and move, add, change (MAC) services for both SOHO and FSS.

Tex-AN NG, a five-year multiple award contract, supports the communications needs of more than 600 entities in the state of Texas—ranging from councils of government and school districts to publicly funded organizations. Since its award in 2011, Hughes has provided these entities with dedicated bandwidth for satellite Internet access using its advanced HX satellite platform. You can learn more about these services here.

“Over the last three years, the Tex-AN NG vehicle has enabled Texas agencies and local governments—many in areas ‘unserved’ by terrestrial broadband—to access high-speed satellite Internet,” said Tony Bardo, assistant vice president for Government Solutions at Hughes. “This modification ensures state and local government entities can take advantage of the latest Hughes satellite technology available to support home and small office locations.”

For SOHO users, tokens will now be available for purchase to extend bandwidth or data allowance. For FSS, redeployable services will include vehicle-mounted and fly-away antenna systems and support. Additionally, both SOHO and FSS will now have the option to receive MAC support. This entails a wide range of labor services including site surveys, very small aperture terminal (VSAT) installation, antenna reinstallation and relocation assistance.

“We’re excited to see how Tex-AN NG will continue to evolve over the next two years, and how our new service offerings will foster this evolution. We look forward to continuing to provide satellite broadband business Internet service to state agencies and local government organizations,” added Bardo.
