Satellite iRG Identifies Interference And Takes Action

[SatNews] Last week SatNews shared the news about the executive team at Satellite iRG.

This next week Martin Coleman, the recently appointed Executive Director of Satellite IRG, and Director of Colem, will be speaking at two conference sessions. Satellite interference is a huge problem for the satellite industry and one which Satellite IRG (formerly SUIRG) has been combating for a number of years through a number of initiatives, such as carrier ID. Coleman is adamant in his goal to drive the organization forward, widening its global reach, and working towards the ultimate eradication of interference before it starts.

Further details of the panels are below. Wednesday, 16 March
3:15 PM to 4:30 PM Satellite Interference: Time to Take Action presented by IRG (formerly SUIRG) will be a specialist session to support, inform and action those satellite interference initiatives that are now in place.  The Session, which will be held in room 209A, will specifically look at problem of interference and how this effects the marketplace.

The global initiative to combat escalating levels of satellite interference has now reached a scale that is without precedent. The international satellite sector, the user community and governments have been collaborating to implement a variety of solutions designed to improve signal quality for broadcast and telecommunication services worldwide. This Session will reveal the broadcasters take on the problem, how it impacts on their industry and their own efforts to help bring the problem of interference back under control through such groups as the newly formed RFI End User Initiative group (RFI-EUI).

Bob Ames, Satellite Interference Reduction Group (IRG), will be moderation this special session, with discussion among top industry experts including: Dick Tauber, VP of Transmission Systems and New Technology, CNN News Group; Rich Wolf, Vice President Telecommunications & Affiliate Services, ABC Broadcast Operations & Engineering; Bob Potter, President, SAT Corporation; Jeffrey Chu, Co-Founder & CEO, Glowlink Communications Technology and Martin Coleman, Executive Director, IRG & MD of Colem Communications.

This is part of the Satellite Show’s main conference program and seating will be limited.

Thursday, 17 March 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM The Global Interference Mitigation Initiative: The Year in Review & Prospects for 2011 and Beyond presented by IRG (formerly SUIRG) & GVF will be the day to continue to support, inform and action those satellite interference initiatives that are now in place.  The Forum, which will be held in room 209A, will provide updates on each facet of this global industry challenge, as well as each of the initiatives that are underway to resolve the problem.

The global initiative to combat escalating levels of satellite interference has now reached a scale that is without precedent. The international satellite sector, the user community and governments have been collaborating to implement a variety of solutions designed to improve signal quality for broadcast and telecommunication services worldwide. This Forum will reveal the results of those efforts and determine the next steps to be taken, particularly as they relate to training, product quality assurance, carrier ID, the Space Data Association, and wireless interference. With regard to the latter, regulators around the globe are beginning to consider and open up more satellite spectrum to wireless operators. Recently, Ku and even Ka band have been added to the list of targeted frequencies, together with C band.

Martin Coleman, Executive Director, Satellite Interference Reduction Group (IRG) and David Hartshorn, Secretary General, Global VSAT Forum (GVF), will be leading the discussion among top industry experts including: Ron Busch, VP, Network Operations, Intelsat; Mark Rawlins, Head of Payload Engineering and Operations, Eutelsat; Stewart Sanders, SVP SES Eng.; Chairman Space Data Association; Tim Shroyer, Chief Technology Officer, General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies; Mark Steel, Sr. Director of Engineering, Cobham SATCOM Land Systems; and Dick Tauber, VP of Transmission Systems and New Technology, CNN News Group. There is no charge for attendance at the Interference Mitigation Summit, but seating will be limited. To ensure a place for your organization in this important forum, RSVP today to GVF website.
