SES Heading For EXPO 2020 Plus Offering A New White Paper

SES S.A. (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG) is going to support Luxembourg’s presence at Expo 2020 in Dubai.

The world exhibition with the overall theme of “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” will take place between October 2020 and April 2021 in the United Arab Emirates with a main theme developed through three spheres: Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability. Focusing on Luxembourg’s strengths in economic and technological innovation and diversification, Luxembourg’s pavilion will explore the key topic “Resourceful Luxembourg.” SES supports the Grand Duchy and the Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy with two other partners, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and POST Luxembourg.

Karim Michel Sabbagh, President and CEO of SES, commented that SES is an excellent example of Luxembourg’s global reach. Covering 99 percent of the planet and connecting more than a billion people every day, SES demonstrates how a small country can have an impact well beyond its frontiers and even reach the most remote corners of the world. SES also illustrates Luxembourg’s pioneering role in space technologies and the nation's ambition to explore new resources.

Étienne Schneider, Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, added that the United Arab Emirates are a most important commercial partner of Luxembourg in the Gulf region. In promoting innovation and sustainable development, the profile of Expo 2020 perfectly aligns with Luxembourg's national approach of global economic diversification, especially with reference to the space sector and information and communication technologies. Dubai is the first Arab city in the world to host a universal expo that expects more than 25 million visitors. This participation offers a unique opportunity to highlight Luxembourg’s strengths on the international scene, and particularly in the Middle East.

Additionally, global challenges, such as those related to health and education as well as civic and economic empowerment, require Internet access to engage solutions... SES S.A. is providing such solutions with a global fleet of satellites and innovative applications, as described in the firm's new White Paper, “E-inclusion: Satellites are the Answer.

Internet access has the power to rapidly transform quality of life,” the White Paper states. “In an emergency, connectivity can make the difference between life and death. Connecting a hospital gives it the power to call on the wealth of the world’s medical knowledge. Connecting schools brings quality learning material to children regardless of where they live. Connecting key events like elections enhances citizen participation in public life. And connectivity for the agriculture and financial services sectors puts the tools of opportunity in the hands of those that need it most.

SES has built on the strength of satellites to provide borderless connectivity and created a completely global network that reaches 99 percent of the world’s population. A space network is not enough though, which is why SES has deployed a wide range of platforms and applications on the ground that give the power of connectivity to those who need it most.

As governments look for innovative solutions to achieve development goals, SES’s powerful collection of reliable e-inclusion services will be there. From emergency.lu to e-microfinance, each [SES] project demonstrates how satellite technology improves and saves lives.”
