[SatNews] BAE Systems has announced the appointment of Jerry DeMuro as president and CEO of BAE Systems, Inc., effective February 1, 2014—he succeeds Linda P. Hudson, who in August 2013 announced her intention to retire from the company in 2014.

BAE Systems' new president and CEO, Jerry DeMuro.

He will be appointed as an executive director of BAE Systems plc and will serve on BAE Systems’ Executive Committee, as well as on the board of BAE Systems, Inc. DeMuro will report to Ian King, chief executive of BAE Systems plc, and Michael Chertoff, chairman of the board for BAE Systems, Inc. DeMuro joins the company with more than 36 years’ experience within the national security, technology and aerospace industry. Most recently he served as executive vice president and corporate vice president of the more than $10 billion, 44,000-employee Information Systems and Technology group at General Dynamics, leading a diverse portfolio focused on secure mobile communication systems, information technology solutions and mission support services, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems. Prior to his appointment as executive vice president and corporate vice president, he held a number of critical senior leadership positions since joining the company through an acquisition in 1999. Earlier in his career, he spent almost a decade as an acquisition official at the U.S. Department of Defense.

DeMuro inherits an organization well positioned to succeed and thrive in the current business environment. Since 2009, the company has taken significant steps to reduce costs and implement initiatives to improve efficiency and speed to market. In that period, the company has diversified its portfolio of products, services and capabilities to meet the evolving needs of its military, intelligence, government and commercial customers, while at the same time investing in the development of its workforce and focusing on initiatives to attract and retain the industry’s top talent.

Linda P. Hudson will retire as a director of BAE Systems plc and step down from her role as President and CEO on February 1, but will remain as an advisor to the company until the end of May to ensure a seamless transition. In addition, she will remain on the BAE Systems, Inc. board as an outside director through April 2015.
