Inmarsat Approves ...Hughes Proud of their Latest Generation...BGAN Terminal

[SatNews] “BGAN HDR is a game-changing service..."

Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), provider of broadband satellite networks and services, and Inmarsat (LSE: ISAT.L), provider of global mobile satellite communications services, today announced that Hughes’ latest generation portable BGAN terminal, the Hughes 9211-HDR, has received Inmarsat type approval. The 9211-HDR terminal provides a range of asymmetric high data streaming rates, with an average speed of 650 kbps and speeds as high as 800 kbps over Inmarsat’s BGAN HDR service.

This builds on the success of the popular Hughes 9201, which has a significant global installed base of customers. Hughes remains the only approved North American BGAN terminal manufacturer. Designed to provide high performance mobile satellite connectivity even in the most demanding environments, the Hughes 9211-HDR is the world’s smallest and lightest Inmarsat BGAN HDR-capable terminal.

“Inmarsat is dedicated to leading the way in satellite innovation,” said Greg Ewert, president, Enterprise. “BGAN HDR is a game-changing service delivering superior video quality from anywhere in the world, and broadcasters who have used it are extremely enthusiastic about its capabilities. We are very excited to add the Hughes 9211-HDR terminal to our BGAN HDR portfolio.” Budget friendly and feature rich, the Hughes 9211-HDR is ideal for media broadcast organizations, government agencies, global relief work organizations (NGOs), mobile healthcare, first responders, and public safety, where quality of service and performance is paramount.

“With the introduction of the 9211-HDR, we are building on the 9201’s legacy and expanding our portfolio with a terminal that is smaller and lighter than any other HDR terminal on the market,” said Graham Avis, vice president and general manager of Hughes San Diego.

The Hughes 9211-HDR includes features such as built-in RJ11, multi-user Wi-Fi access, and advanced automatic context activation. Its one-piece design delivers ease of portability and rapid field setup. An active external antennaport enables future optional connectivity of remote semi-fixed and mobile tracking antennas.
