XipLink Backs GeoEye's 'Eye Sight'

[SatNews] Redundancy can be a very good thing.

(NASDAQ: GEOY), a provider of geospatial information and insight, has successfully deployed a series of redundant XipLink XA-30K appliances into various networks around the globe to backhaul critical image data for their key customers. Each day, organizations in defense and intelligence, public safety, critical infrastructure, energy and online media rely on GeoEye's imagery, tools and expertise to support important missions around the globe.

In addition to the recent upgrades, the two companies have worked closely together for more than five years on optimization technology for imaging data. To date, GeoEye has engineered three backhaul network upgrades: One in 2006, one in 2009 and most recently the 155 Mbps DVB-S2 network upgrade using state-of-the-art XipLink wireless link optimizers.

The link utilization for imaging data now routinely exceeds 95 percent of available capacity resulting in financial payback on the XA-30K accelerators in a matter of months versus un-optimized SCPC links. XipLink’s XA-Series appliances include a range of industrial computing engines that scale for wireless carriers from 2 Mbps to high-performance systems running at 155 Mbps, with the best capital cost ratio in the industry.

For mobile users, XipLink also offers the XS family of specialty devices, including the palm-sized XipStick™ for MSS and mobile military VSAT requirements as well as the XS-104 single board computer for rugged computing on the move. Carl Alleyne, GeoEye’s vice president of Engineering, commented, “Our Company is committed to technical excellence and leading-edge delivery of imaging content to our government and commercial customers. The recent upgrade to 155 Mbps backhaul technology allows higher-resolution images to be delivered in a much shorter time window due to the reliability and capacity of the XipLink accelerators.”

“We are delighted with our continuing successful relationship with GeoEye,” says Jack Waters, CEO of XipLink. “Over more than five years in operation and three capacity upgrades, the XipLink XA appliances have had no production outages and, more importantly, the wireless link acceleration technology provides our customer with competitive advantage to deliver next generation imaging in a timely manner.
