Daily Satellite Imagery from Farmers Edge™ Launched for Specialty Crops

Farmers Edge™ is now offering its industry-leading satellite imagery and mapping technology for specialty crops to meet the evolving needs of growers worldwide.

With imagery captured daily from the largest private constellation of satellites in the world, state-of-the-art image processing, and advanced analytics, Farmers Edge provides timely, field-level insights for every stage of the crop cycle.

Growers gain access to FarmCommand™, an integrated farm data management platform that includes: a unique set of imagery-derived map layers, automatic crop health change detection, field-centric weather conditions, and digital scouting tools.

Using rapid data processing, high-resolution imagery is transformed within 48 hours, significantly faster than the average turnaround time of 7 to 10 days other vendors provide and with enough clarity to zero in on individual trees or specific areas of a field so corrective action can be taken at the first sign of a problem. Advanced cloud filtering eliminates false reports of crop issues, preventing needless scouting on fields that do not require it. These advances build on the expertise Farmers Edge has developed since bringing daily satellite imagery to agriculture in 2017.

Adding a layer of efficiency, growers have access to an exclusive suite of digital tools to optimize crop production and increase the profitability of their farm, including:

  • Field-centric forecasted, current, and historical conditions powered by on-farm weather stations

  • Automatic Crop Health Change

  • Notifications to automatically detect and alert growers of changes in their fields that may impact yield, including: pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, irrigation irregularities, equipment malfunctions, and more...

  • Live equipment and fleet tracking

  • Predictive crop growth stage models.

Wade Barnes, CEO and Co-Founder of Farmers Edge, said specialty crops are a big business and growers can command as much as $60,000 per acre for cultivating these less common crops. In California alone, specialty crops generate more than $83 billion annually. The company is noting an increase in specialty crop production from growers across North America to drive new revenue streams and diversify their crop portfolios. The company is excited to extend this powerful technology to more growers to help them maximize yield and profits.
