NovelSat Signs 100th Customer... Offering Space In Space, Simple + Successful

[SatNews] Celebrating their milestone, and the diversity of customers.

Global demand for satellite bandwidth continues to increase. One indicator of this trend comes from NovelSat, developer of NS3™ next-generation satellite transmission technology and leading satellite communications equipment vendor, who recently signed their 100th customer.

The increase in demand for satellite bandwidth comes from various sources including a call for more high-end video, increased military use of commercial satellites, high-speed Internet data consumption and the expanding communications needs of maritime, oil and gas industries and developing countries.

These trends are reflected in the types of customers that NovelSat has been signing throughout the past two years. Among NovelSat customers are major international broadcasters, cellular networks, data communications providers, news gathering companies and military agencies. In addition to demand from developing nations who do not have a mature fiber infrastructure, NovelSat satellite transmission equipment is now deployed at over 3,000 sites in 110 countries around the globe.

Companies and agencies who rely on satellite transmission are constrained by the high cost of satellite bandwidth and the often limited availability of bandwidth, especially in high-traffic zones such as North America and Western Europe. These constraints prompt them to find ways of transmitting more data and video over a fixed amount of bandwidth, or to reduce the cost of transmission by reducing the amount of bandwidth they need.

Satellite modulators and demodulators with embedded NovelSat NS3 technology can achieve an increase in spectral efficiency of 30 to 60 percent compared with state of the art DVB-S2 standard, the satellite industry broadcast standard. Using NovelSat modems equipped with DUET™, NovelSat’s software-based echo cancellation technology, the increase is as much as 100 percent with transmission speeds of 100Kbps to 730Mbps (Megabits per second), making NovelSat equipment the world’s fastest satellite transmission solutions.

“100 customers is an important milestone for NovelSat. But it also says a lot about industry trends and demands,” said Itzik Wulkan, CEO of NovelSat. “Other factors that are important to NovelSat customers are remote, over the air (OTA) updates, backward and forward compatibility with industry standards and the fact that large organizations can continue to use their existing transponders and other equipment and still achieve huge increases in spectral efficiency.”

Generally considered too expensive to supplement mobile backhaul, another advantage of high efficiency transmission through NovelSat NS3 is that it makes satellite links a viable and economical alternative to landline connections over long distances.

NovelSat, celebrating its 7th anniversary this year, is also developing future technologies to offer even more efficiency improvements and other benefits to the satellite transmission markets.
