According to Kevin, Apple is moving away from Google Maps with this new deal which, apparently, occurred after Apple revealed some new mapping options that will be resident with their new operating system. Tom Tom currently supplies maps to Google, but with that deal coming to a close, the Apple sign-on is just what both firms needed. According to the GPS World columnist, there could be some deeper relationships between the two companies at work, but only time will tell. Given the decreasing number of sales for portable navigation devices, this new Apple arrangement could well be a true boon for Tom Tom. And now the true battle shapes up... Google versus Apple as the world's mapping leader.
