XipLink has announced a single board computer version of its wireless bandwidth optimizer, the XE-104. The rugged board can be used to rapidly integrate specialized satellite acceleration software into custom communication controllers for maritime, aviation and other mobile satellite applications. Historically, TCP accelerators have been deployed in MilSat networks using appliances that followed the SCPS-TP standard for interoperability. The inclusion of new wireless bandwidth optimization features has compelled many integrators to license the
XipLink software and embed selected software modules in edge communications devices like satellite modems, man-portable systems and encryption devices. The
XE-104 delivers full access to all wireless optimization features, including kernel-coded SCPS TCP acceleration, string-based data compression, http pre-fetching, and special wireless link optimizations. The XE-104 works with all other XipLink wireless optimization products while fully conforming to the SCPS-TP communication standard. Any system running the XE embedded software can accelerate data using any other embedded system or with the XA family of scalable appliances over a point-to-point, mesh or star topology with no end to end configuration necessary. Measuring just 96 mm by 115 mm, the new hardware weighs only 0.162 kg and provides a robust platform for multi-megabit throughput using dedicated processors and memory while operating in extreme (-40C to +85C) conditions. Using the on-board input and output Ethernet ports, integrators can simply place the XE-104 in-line in the communication system and accelerated and compressed data can be transparently passed to other elements in the chassis, making it easy to integrate into any vehicle or man-portable communication controller.
