Rohde & Schwarz has expanded its R&S SFU broadcast test system by adding two realtime coder options for digital TV systems.

The R&S SFU can now be used to develop and test HDTV and mobile TV receivers for ATSC Mobile DTV and DVB-T2, including modules and components. In addition, test labs can use the R&S SFU broadcast test system as a reference signal source for compliance tests and the certification of user equipment. The R&S SFU offers all of the required functions for these applications in a single instrument. Existing ATSC networks can be expanded by ATSC Mobile DTV, the new American digital standard for mobile TV. Operating in full compliance with this standard, the R&S SFU-K18 realtime coder option generates signals with video and audio contents in realtime. Coding parameters are user-selectable. The integrated transport stream generator of the R&S SFU can be used as a source for the multiplex contents to be transmitted, which considerably simplifies the test setup. An external generator can also be connected.
