To mitigate the effects of latency over satellite communications, Expand’s Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) advances SCPS (Space Communications Protocol Standard) TCP Acceleration with Layer 7 QoS, patented byte-level caching and compression, as well as secure monitoring and management capabilities. Expand’s WAN Accelerators were chosen by DISA over those from Comtech and XipLink to replace Packeteer’s SkyX Gateways.
DISA provides real time IT and communications support to the President of the United States, Vice President, Secretary of Defense, the military services, and the combatant commands. Expand Networks’ PEP+ accelerator solution significantly enhances the ability of DISA to fulfill its mission and support the national security community.
“This is a very significant win in the Satellite Communications marketplace,” said Howard Teicher, Expand Network’s Vice President for Public Sector & Satellite Markets. “While we have worked with DISA in the past, and have a long history of success with various government agencies, DISA’s is the primary Defense Department telecommunications service provider. The selection of Expand highlights our key competitive differentiators and ability to provide the features that other companies simply don’t have.”
In addition to accelerating the two-way, real time IP services on the DVB-RCS network, Expand’s Accelerators will likely be used in the near future to enhance the capabilities of the DVB-RCS network by supporting a telemedicine initiative for military medical personnel deployed in the Middle East. Expand’s accelerators will ensure rapid and reliable transmission of critical medical data, such as X-rays, MRI, and other radiological imagery studies, between remote medical facilities and large hospitals across the world.
Expand Networks also recently announced the Expand Accelerator 1610 which delivers the Accelerator technology in a PC-104+ condensed form factor. The 1610 is an ideal solution for space constrained and harsh environments.
