Harris Corporation + Naval Special Warfare—Manpack With MUOS Benefit (TacComms)

[SatNews] Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) has received an initial order from the U.S. Navy for its next-generation Falcon III® Multi-channel Manpack tactical radio—the smallest, lightest and most capable two-channel manpack radio available today and this is the first tactical radio that can expand capabilities as the needs of the battlefield change.

Harris will deliver the Multi-channel Manpack radios this fall to Naval Special Warfare, a leader in deploying cutting-edge battlefield technology. The radio is designed to operate over the new Mobile User Objective System military communications satellite without any hardware changes.

“The new Harris Multi-channel Manpack represents a quantum leap in tactical communications technology. It is a modular, software-defined radio that recognizes the battlefield is never static,” said George Helm, president, Department of Defense business, Harris RF Communications. “With its two channels and expansion slot, it allows users to deploy the capabilities they need to be successful.”

Harris developed the Multi-channel Manpack to exceed the requirements of the Handheld, Manpack, Small Form Factor tactical radio program, with features required by all branches of the Department of Defense. The radio hosts all required U.S. government wideband and narrowband waveforms. It also supports multi-channel cross-banding and requires only a single battery, minimizing size and weight for the dismounted soldier.
