Marlink—Technology Showcase @ Posidonia 2014 (Event—SATCOM)

[SatNews] Marlink is highlighting the significant improvements to its leading VSAT service plans and how the all new WaveCall™ Plus services can support the transport market to improve operations and crew welfare through better IP connectivity at Posidonia 2014.

WaveCall Plus services are based on the most extensive global VSAT coverage available and come fully integrated with unlimited MSS back-up to provide a truly global connectivity service. They are designed to offer the most cost effective global VSAT available today: for one monthly fee, customers get everything they need, including the best combination of airtime and hardware.

Users of Marlink’s new standardised VSAT services for the global transport market will benefit from double the broadband allowance for the same price as the incumbent service – up to 60 GB per month on WaveCall Plus, or double the download speeds and up to 256kb Committed Information Rate (CIR) on WaveCall Premium Plus.

“The service plans feature more data or throughput at a number of different levels, which offers complete flexibility to meet any need in the shipping transport market,” comments Jan Einar Bringedal, Head of Sales Management, Marlink. “WaveCall Plus is also a future-proof choice for shipowners, as it features the possibility to migrate to next generation Ku- or Ka- band high-throughput services when they become available.”

Included in all WaveCall Plus packages, the XChange communications management platform from Airbus Defence and Space provides centralized VoIP, data and Internet access, and handles automatic fallback switching from MSS. XChange also supports Internet Cafés on board and enables the unique Bring Your Own Device solution, where crew can use their own smart phones and tablets on board for full privacy and convenience.

Designed to ensure optimal network performance and support ship administration and operation, Marlink also offers a number of fully integrated Value Added Services with WaveCall Plus packages, including the established SkyFile® Mail, Access and Weather solutions, Marlink Prepaid Cards, Data Manager, and Web Filtering And Compression solutions.

The improvements introduced with WaveCall Plus are made possible through Marlink parent company Airbus Defence and Space’s new AuroraGlobal platform. Known as AuroraMaritime in the maritime market, customers benefit from next generation Ku-band VSAT services without the need to replace existing antennas. The AuroraMaritime VSAT offering is an all-in-one solution featuring twice the previous data volume allowances and twice the previous data speeds. Unlimited L-band back-up services are included within AuroraMaritime based services and easy migration to High Throughput Satellite (HTS) services is possible.
