Bolivian Backhaul Bound


SES NEW SKIES' NSS-7 satellite With its broad coverage across Latin America, SES AMERICOM-NEW SKIES, a division of SES S.A. (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG), announced at the ITW conference that Nuevatel PCS de Bolivia has signed a three-year agreement for satellite-delivered GSM backhaul to extend its mobile phone and public telephony services into rural and remote villages and communities across Bolivia.

As part of the deal, Nuevatel is tapping 12.1 megahertz of Ku-band capacity aboard the NSS-7 satellite to offer its popular VIVA mobile phone and public telephony services beyond the big cities of La Paz, Santa Cruz and Cochabamba into isolated and unconnected communities like Antahuagana. NSS-7 is a state-of-the-art, hybrid Ku- and C-band satellite located at 338 degrees East over the Atlantic Ocean, providing coverage of Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas. The spacecraft features 49 C-band transponders and 48 Ku-band transponders.
