NORSAT BUCs Up An International Defense Electronics Company

[SatNews] Norsat International Inc. (“Norsat”) (TSX: NII and OTC BB: NSATF) has received an order for approximately $430,000 from a large international defense electronics company, to deliver its ATOM series Block Upconverter (BUC) products.

This represents the second largest single order for the ATOM series and builds on the momentum and success of the ATOM product line. Norsat has worked closely with this customer since the product was introduced in April 2014.

The ATOM series of BUCs and Solid  State Power Amplifiers (SSPAs) are ideal for Comms-On-The-Move (COTM) applications as they are up to 82 percent smaller, 68 percent lighter, and 60 percent more energy efficient than other products on the market. The product line has undergone extensive third-party certification testing to meet intense temperature, shock, vibration, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) specifications required by military and commercial customers for both land and airborne COTM applications.

Dr. Amiee Chan, chief executive officer of Norsat, said, “The ability to have high-level connectivity regardless of the location, conditions, or movement of the vehicle, plane or boat, is increasingly becoming a requirement from customers. Our ATOM series is specifically designed to meet the various challenges faced by this market, including smaller size, lower weight, decreased power consumption and reduced heat dissipation.  This product, and end market, are two key areas where we have the opportunity to drive growth over the foreseeable future.”

The company expects the vast majority of the order will be shipped during the third quarter of 2015, with some units being shipped in early 2015.
