[Satnews] Thuraya has enjoyed triple digit growth in Asia for three years in a row in the maritime sector alone...

Thuraya’s CEO Samer Halawi was last night named “Satellite Executive of the Year” by the Asia-Pacific Satellite Communications Council (APSCC).

Mr. Halawi  was  recognized  at  the  organization’s 12th annual  awards ceremony,  which  took  place  in Seoul, South Korea, on September 22, as  part  of  the  APSCC’s  2015  Satellite  Conference  and  Exhibition.

Since Halawi was appointed as CEO in 2011, Thuraya has gone on to deliver a sustained transformation, with a double-digit compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11 percent from 2011 to 2014.

Samer Halawi, CEO, Thuraya Telecommunications, said, “On behalf of Thuraya and our whole team, I am really grateful to receive this prestigious award in recognition of our contribution to the satellite industry. It is a great honor for Thuraya to be recognized for having transformed itself into what is today a progressive, successful business.

“Thuraya has also made a positive contribution to the world at the same time. We want to make a difference, offering a competitive choice of products and services and introducing innovation and disruption in an industry that requires an alternative to the status quo. The award also demonstrates the value of working with our partners. Ours is a collaborative approach, creating innovative partnerships, business models, and products and solutions, together.”

Thuraya has enjoyed triple digit growth in Asia for three years in a row in the maritime sector alone. The company expects this sector to grow further due to strong demand for its products, which offer both exceptional performance and value, and a compelling, competitive alternative for customers.

Halawi said, “This award recognizes the success of the Thuraya team, and the difference we are making together with our partners across the Asia Pacific region. We want to make a difference in other ways too, and Thuraya’s purpose is to save and improve lives. That is a humbling responsibility, and one we take very seriously. It shapes us as a team, and as a company.”
