[SatNews] The 36-year-old Spanish adventurer, who climbed all of the fourteen 8,000 metre peaks in the world, has successfully summited Annapurna, one of the highest mountains in the Himalayas region, without oxygen. The progress and news of Edurne Pasaban during her conquest of Annapurna was transmitted in real-time to her fans and media through ThurayaIP, the world’s smallest portable satellite broadband solution.
“The technology and convenience of ThurayaIP were wonderful. I was able to stay in contact with my family and friends, check weather forecasts, and update my blog and photos the whole time from that very distant peak on earth,” said Pasaban whose communications was sponsored by Thuraya. Pasaban, who runs her own adventure company “El Abeletxe,” is a Basque mountaineer. She has climbed all of the fourteen 8,000 meter peaks in the world, as the second woman ever to do so after Oh Eun-Sun. In April and May 2010, she added Annapurna and Shisha Pangma to her world record. With ThurayaIP, Pasaban sent emails and files and browsed the internet with high speed and efficiency.
ThurayaIP has the capability to provide wireless broadband coverage within a range of up to 100 metres, which provides great convenience and flexibility for indoor/outdoor usage. The service and coordination was provided to Pasaban by Satlink, Thuraya’s National Service Provider in Spain.
