"The sides expressed mutual interest in the use of Russia’s global satellite navigation system Glonass and intend to promote cooperation in this area, including joint production of satellite navigation equipment and services to civilian users,” the statement says. Glonass is Russia’s answer to the U.S. Global Positioning System, or GPS, and is designed for both military and civilian uses. Both systems allow users to determine their positions to within a few meters.
