Space Foundation To Honor Colorado Space Heroes

Colorado is "home" to more astronauts than any other state in the U.S., with at least 100 NASA astronauts who were born, educated, worked or resided in the state.

Colorado is also the Space Foundation's home state, and a hub for all things space, including:

  • Ranking first in the U.S. in number of aerospace employees
  • Having the nation's third-largest aerospace economy
  • Serving as the U.S. center for military space

To honor the astronauts, aerospace executives, government officials, military leaders and others who have contributed most significantly to the development and success of Colorado's space economy, the Space Foundation has created the Colorado Space Heroes Hall of Fame.

"Colorado is a powerhouse state in aerospace thanks to the many business, government, military and research leaders who have advanced our space capability and inspired our youth for space endeavors," said Gov. John Hickenlooper. "The Space Foundation has been a catalyst to propel our economy, and we are proud that they call Colorado home. Congratulations to the courageous leaders with the Space Foundation's Colorado Space Heroes Hall of Fame."

Nominate a "Space Hero" by July 1
Anyone may submit a nomination for a Colorado "space hero" whose personal or professional contributions in space span a decade or more, and have lived or worked in Colorado. Nominees may also be awarded posthumously. The deadline to submit a nomination is July 1, 2016. See all of the eligibility requirements at ColoradoSpaceHeroes.org. Nominations will be reviewed by a volunteer selection committee.

A gala in Denver at Mile High Station during World Space Week on October 7, 2016, will publicly celebrate the first honorees to be inducted into the Colorado Space Heroes Hall of Fame. See ticket information and sponsorship availability at the above listed website.

The Colorado Space Heroes Hall of Fame will live virtually on the Internet, and may later find a permanent physical presence at the Space Foundation Discovery Center space museum and education center in Colorado Springs.
