Gilat Satellite Networks (Gilat)—Technology Showcase @ Satellite 2014 (SATCOM—Router + BUC)

[SatNews] Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (Nasdaq:GILT) has announced the availability of the SkyEdge II-c Capricorn ultra-high-speed satellite router for high-end enterprises, broadband access and cellular applications—the Capricorn VSAT will be showcased at the upcoming Satellite 2014 event in Washington D.C. as well as the new Wavestream 50 watt Ka-Wideband PowerStream BUC.

Capricorn, the latest addition to the SkyEdge II-c family of high-performance satellite routers, has been designed to deliver ultra-high-speed broadband services while satisfying the need for cost efficiencies. This full-featured IP router, supporting Ku/Ka/C bands with throughput of more than 200Mbps, supports high performance and bandwidth-hungry applications such as ultra-fast web browsing, video streaming, IPTV, VoIP, cellular backhauling, and IP trunks. Capricorn comes with a full set of protocol optimization and acceleration engines built-in, including TCP and HTTP, compression and embedded caching technologies. In addition, Capricorn has an advanced application-based QoS and over-the-air AES-256 encryption for security and privacy. It also includes support for IPv6 networks - a must have for new broadband subscribers as IPv4 addresses are becoming scarce.

Additionally, Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. has introduced their Wavestream's 50W Ka-Wideband PowerStream Block Upconverter (BUC). This PowerStream unit incorporates Wavestream's Spatial advantEdge™ technology to provide higher output power in smaller, lighter weight packages that are more reliable and use less energy, which is also being showcased at Satellite 2014..

The 50W Ka-Wideband PowerStream is the next evolution of Wavestream's Ka-band products. It retains all the features and improves on the performance of its Ka-band predecessor, while being one-half (1/2) the size, and one-half (1/2) the weight for higher linear output power. The 50W Ka-Wideband PowerStream features:

  • More than 30-Watts of Linear Output Power - Per MIL-STD-188-164 definition
  • Lower Power Draw—this means cooler temperatures and higher Mean-Time-Between-Failure (MTBF)
  • Flexible, Modular Design—can be fitted to almost any antenna
  • Wideband—able to cover frequencies from 27.5 GHz - 31.0 GHz, in up to 4 sub-bands
