What are you most looking forward to about PTC'13?

A chance to hear from thought-leaders in this space, hear specifically about challenges and opportunities in the Pacific Rim, reconnect with old colleagues and meet new ones.

Who should attend PTC'13?

Anyone interested in thought-provoking, insightful, executive-level discussions and networking regarding a broad range of technologies, services, disruptions, and issues facing telecommunications and networked IT.

What would you like attendees to know about the conference theme?

The theme represents the evolution of telecoms. Certainly raw capacity in terms of footprint and bandwidth is important, but perhaps more important over the next decade will be capabilities—new services and features in current markets and the pursuit of new markets, and greater network intelligence—built on raw connectivity. The ability of these new services to collaborate with customers, nontraditional partners, and regulatory authorities to usher in the next generation of telecommunications services will be key.

Describe highlights from your keynote presentation Cloudonomics: Cloud Strategy and Economics.

I'm going to focus on the value of the cloud, rather than the technology. This includes not just cost reduction and business agility, but cloud-enabled strategic value and competitive advantage derived from better processes, better products and services, better customer relationships, and accelerated innovation.

Lessons from the Tubes

Monday, 21 January 2013, 08.40ˆ09.00, Location: Coral 3

Featuring: Andrew Blum is the author of Tubes: A Journey to the Center of the Internet (Ecco), the first book-length look behind the scenes of our digital lives, at the physical heart of the internet itself.

Opening Keynote: Lessons from the Tubes

What does the infrastructure of "the cloud" mean to its users? What degree of transparency do users seek? What do they hope is the present and future role of the infrastructure itself in their daily lives? How do they expect it to meet their needs in the future? What is the future of global telecommunications for the rest of us?

Author Andrew Blum will explore these and other questions as he reflects back to the telecom community what he's learned from a year of speaking publicly about their industry to non-technical audiences around the world.
