Goonhilly Earth Station's New Executive Board Member Is Not Boring...Former Member Of ExoMars Mission Team


Goonhilly Earth Station now welcomes their newest member of the executive board who comes with a portfolio of experience.

Matthew Cosby has joined the executive management board at Goonhilly Earth Station Ltd taking the role of Director of Space Engineering. The move further strengthens the company bringing Matt’s vast skill and knowledge of spacecraft communications engineering coupled with his experience working with NASA, ESA and many global space agencies. 

Matt is one of the UK’s most senior engineers in the field of spacecraft communications representing the UK Space Agency at international committees on space communication standards (CCSDS) and at the Interagency Operations Advisory Group (IOAG). Both of these roles will continue. 


Matthew Cosby has joined the executive management board at Goonhilly Earth Station Ltd taking the role of Director of Space Engineering.

In his previous role as Chief Engineer in QinetiQ Space UK, Matt led the team developing the UHF transceiver for the ExoMars mission, which arrives at its destination at the red planet on October 19th. 

Matt will be leading various projects at Goonhilly

  • expanding the range of capabilities at the site including our Deep Space Communications service
  • low/medium orbit tracking capabilities 
  • new research, development and innovation systems division developing advanced communication system solutions.

Matt has been working at both Goonhilly and QinetiQ during the past year sharing his time between the two companies. With this new role as executive director, Matt will be leaving QinetiQ and taking a full-time role at Goonhilly.
