Azercosmos... Azerspace To Come Calling On Kuru... (Launch)

[SatNews] Azercosmos is working on accelerating the manufacturing and launch...

...of Azerbaijan’s first national satellite. A report from Azercosmos says the launch of national satellite is planed for the end of the year. The first satellite—Azerspace—is being created on the STAR-2 platform of Orbital Sciences Corporation company. At present, 22 satellites created on this platform are successfully operating. The Azerbaijani satellite will be launched in the last quarter of 2012 from Kuru cosmodrome in French Guiana via an Ariane-5 launch vehicle.

Azercosmos OJS Co will launch, manage and operate the telecommunication satellites, increasing integration in global information environment, provision and strengthening of national and information security through connection of state agencies, legal entities and individuals to satellite networks. Through the satellite and its systems, Azercosmos OJS Co plans to provide satellite communications services, telecommunications, high-speed satellite Internet, TV and radio broadcasting, reception and more. The Company is also responsible for organizing a space complex of fixed communication systems, multifunctional retransmission space systems, as well as providing information services. The period of satellite exploitation is 15 years.
