Northrop Grumman — Building Up...

Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Navigation Systems Division has recently broken ground on a facility expansion designed to increase factory output and better serve its commercial, defense and national security customers. Northrop Grumman's 225,000 square foot Salt Lake City facility, located on West North Temple Road, will be expanded by 50,000 square feet to accommodate growth across multiple programs.

The site, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2008, is primarily a production facility for defense and commercial navigation systems that houses approximately 750 engineering, manufacturing and support staff. The Salt Lake City plant builds and tests highly precise navigation systems, gyroscopes and accelerometers for both military and commercial platforms and also features a highly automated circuit card assembly operation. Scheduled to be completed in December of this year, the facility expansion will enable an increase in production in order to support the demand for Northrop Grumman's precision navigation systems. In conjunction with the growth of the company's navigation business, since 2007, the employee population at the Salt Lake City location has increased by more than 20 percent. Northrop Grumman's Salt Lake City facility has achieved International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001/AS9100 certification and Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI®) Maturity Level 3 rating.
