[SatNews] Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) has been honored with a 2014 Defender of the Year award from defense contractor General Dynamics C4 Systems.
The award recognizes on-time delivery and quality and was presented by James Norton, vice president of Washington Operations for General Dynamics C4 Systems, as part of the company’s annual Supplier Day event held last month in Washington, D.C. Altera earned the distinction for meeting strict power, weight, size and cost requirements for its programmable logic technology used in General Dynamics’ latest two-channel, secure voice radio.
General Dynamics C4 Systems is the architect of the Soldier’s Network, which delivers tactical voice and data communications for soldiers in the field, and is a prime contractor for the U.S. Army’s Warfighter Information Network (WIN-T Increment 2). The company also developed the tactical radios that connect soldiers to the WIN-T Increment 2 network, enabling secure voice and data communications and unprecedented situational awareness.
“Altera takes very seriously our commitment to quality and on-time delivery of FPGAs that help General Dynamics design advanced communications systems for our armed forces,” said Ian Land, senior manager for the Military, Aerospace and Government Business Unit at Altera. “We are honored to receive this high honor and to continue our work enabling critical, tactical voice and data communications systems.”
