Inmarsat... Aviation Accolades (SATCOM)

[SatNews] Another successful aeronautical business is being spotlighted by the Company in Hamburg, Germany...

As announced at the company’s full-year results in March, the Company’s aviation services achieved $101 million in revenues in 2010. Strong aeronautical revenue growth across Inmarsat’s global markets has been driven by the continued demand for data services, in-flight connectivity using SwiftBroadband, and operational/safety services. SwiftBroadband has proven to be Inmarsat’s most successful aeronautical service launch to date, with more than 1,500 channels in use today globally. In air transport, there are now 20+ airlines already installing, or have committed to install, SwiftBroadband for connectivity services. From October 2011, Inmarsat is enhancing the capacity of the service by increasing the number of simultaneous channels allowed on a single aircraft from two to four.

Inmarsat also continues to evolve SwiftBroadband, enhancing both its capabilities and market reach. The 2010 introduction of a low-cost SwiftBroadband variant, SB200, provides cost-effective broadband connectivity for smaller aircraft. The next significant development programme for SwiftBroadband centres on the delivery of safety and operational communications services over SwiftBroadband. This allows SwiftBroadband to deliver further benefits and value to aircraft operators in providing not only current ACARS datalink applications but higher data rate prioritized IP links for data-centric aircraft systems and applications, all from the same core SwiftBroadband aircraft technology used for passenger connectivity.
