...SPOT 4 satellite and downlinked to the Moscow UniScan™ ground station of ScanEx RDC on September 28th. Urmia is a salty inland lake, is 140km long from north to south, and 40 to 55km wide. The average depth of the lake is 5m with maximum depth of 16m.

The water is very salty and contains some medical properties. In the autumn, the salt concentration increases quite dramatically. In the winter, Lake Urmia does not freeze. The drying process has been recorded for the lake over the past few years. There are also more than 100 islands on the lake.
