Harris' Geospatial Data Boon

Harris Corporation has debuted their Geospatial Search Tracking and Retrieval (GeoSTAR) tool. This a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), web-based graphical user interface that provides a simpler approach to researching, accessing, and controlling imagery and geospatial products.

GeoSTAR is the nexgen of Harris interfaces that operates in the context of a Geospatial Information System (GIS). It provides instructions to the services and data access layers, such as Harris' new GeoDART search and retrieval software, within a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). GeoSTAR is fully compatible with major commercial web browsers. Researchers may use either the standard GeoSTAR interface, for maximum flexibility, or an express GeoSTAR interface to simplify repetitive tasks and minimize interactions. GeoSTAR also allows users to establish and maintain a personal profile, complete with preferences. Queries can be made of multiple libraries and data catalogs visible to the GIS through SOA Web Service Description Language (WSDL) interfaces. Queries can be either ad hoc or saved, based on frequency, dates or events.
