Newtec Brings TelliNet Into Military Service With ND SatCom

Newtec has announced their Tellitec® IP Software product TelliNet has been selected by satellite broadband supplier ND SatCom to be integrated with the SkyARCS platform to provide fast and secure Intranet access via satellite to the Bundeswehr (German Federal Armed Forces). ND SatCom Defence is the main supplier of military satcom solutions to the German Armed Forces. In 2006, ND SatCom was assigned a new project — as one of the main subcontractors of the prime contractor MilSat Services — to implement the next phase of the German Armed Forces' satellite communications infrastructure. The project is called SATCOMBw Step 2 and is comprised of the delivery of two military communication satellites, more than 500 fixed and transportable ground stations of various sizes, as well as a bundle of communication services. Based on the subcontract, ND SatCom Defence will provide the complete ground segment, the telemetry, tracking and command (TT&C) network, as well as network management for monitoring and controlling the overall system. The contract period stretches over several years and is formally split into a first phase (basic procurement) and an optional second phase (full operational capability). TelliNet is an IP traffic acceleration software solution designed to address the drawbacks affecting TCP performance on high latency and high loss networks. TelliNet combines TCP and application acceleration techniques, with bandwidth efficiency mechanisms, comprehensive compression and encryption techniques. These multi-faced factors can be individually combined to provide the maximum bandwidth efficiency, acceleration and security to any application.
