Prepare Yourself aims at reminding outdoor enthusiasts of all levels the importance of outdoor education, skills and being equipped with the right gear.

Advanced planning such as researching your route, learning First Aid and CPR, and knowing how to use your safety equipment can help ensure your outing is both enjoyable and safe. The Prepare Yourself initiative is being introduced at the beginning of the active summer season when people are traditionally gearing up for their vacations and taking trips. SPOT plans on taking its message on the road to trade shows, conferences and retail locations around the country throughout the year. SPOT is also teaming up with DeLorme, an innovation leader in mapping and GPS technologies, to showcase their highly-anticipated PN-60w GPS with the SPOT Satellite Communicator at the Teva Mountain Games. This product pairing is the world's first rugged, handheld GPS that enables Type & Send text messaging via satellite from virtually anywhere around the world, even where cell phones don't work.

The Teva Mountain Games will be the first opportunity for the public to see the two devices in action working together. Users can send custom messages from outside of cellular service to individual email addresses, cell phones, groups and social networks . In an emergency, the SOS message will alert a rescue coordination center of the user's GPS coordinates. The PN-60w with SPOT Satellite Communicator is expected to be available in July.
