TeamCast... A Shortlist Surprise (SatBroadcasting™)

[SatNews] To be brought forward from a number of entries for a shot at the IBC Innovation Award is a big deal...

TeamCast has been shortlisted in the IBC Innovation Awards competition for the project Single Frequency Networks for HD with DVB-T2, selected from among 130 entries, to compete in the Content Delivery category.  The Awards winner will be announced on September 11, 2011, at the prestigious IBC Awards ceremony in Amsterdam. This project involves DNA Ltd., the national Finnish operator for the new HDTV broadcast network in Finland and Oy L M Ericsson Ab, system integrator for transmission and broadcast networks, and Plisch GmbH, manufacturer of digital transmitters systems. The implementation was done in Single Frequency Network (SFN) mode for DVB-T2.

The IBC Innovation Award proposal explains how the project partners for the deployment of DNA Oy’s new HDTV broadcast network in Finland met the demanding timescales and performance requirements with a truly innovative solution. The solution hinged on the full implementation of the new terrestrial television broadcast standard DVB-T2 in its spectrally-efficient SFN mode (a world first) - transmitting higher data rates in a given bandwidth than its predecessor DVB-T, more robustly, more cost-effectively. TeamCast took the SFN and DVB-T2 specs from paper to product in less than 18 months; and the innovative network was deployed using DNA Oy’s existing 3G mobile telecom transmitter sites and new planning rules.
