  • Aware, Inc. (Nasdaq: AWRE), a leading provider of DSL test solutions, will demo several enhanced software modules for its Dr. DSL Line Diagnostics Platform (LDP) in its exhibition stand at the upcoming IP&TV World Forum which will take place in London from March 22-24, 2011. The modules to be demonstrated include LDP’s DSL Service Predictor and Health Monitor. DSL Service Predictor is a software tool that automatically determines which DSL lines are capable of supporting high-bandwidth IPTV services. DSL Service Predictor computes the DSL line’s IPTV eligibility by collecting and interpreting standard-compliant single-ended (SELT) or dual-ended (DELT) measurements from installed access elements, such as DSLAMs and modems. IPTV operators can use DSL Service Predictor to expand their IPTV coverage area or to evaluate the return-on-investment of upgrading from ADSL2+ to VDSL2 equipment. DSL Health Monitor enhances the IPTV end-customer’s quality of experience (QoE) by detecting emerging problems in the operator’s DSL network or within the customer’s premises before they deteriorate into service interruptions. DSL Health Monitor analyzes the health of IPTV lines against the operator’s DSL performance thresholds and lines with low health scores are automatically identified for proactive troubleshooting.

  • Entone, Inc., a provider of Hybrid TV and Connected Home solutions, and Edgeware, a technology leader in distributed video delivery, have announced that Entone’s Hybrid TV and over-the-top (OTT) devices are fully integrated with Edgeware’s OrbitFast Channel Change solution. Fast Channel Change gives IPTV operators a competitive advantage by dramatically reducing the channel changing times usually associated with digital television (DTV) service. Typical channel changing times for DTV services delivered via satellite, terrestrial and cable can take several seconds. This delay can be frustrating for viewers who have grown accustomed to analog televisions’ near instantaneous channel switching times. Fast Channel Change reduces latency and increases viewers’ overall satisfaction with their IPTV service. Fast Channel Change is flexible and can be deployed in the core or at the edge of the network. The process begins with Edgeware’s Orbit server capturing multicast feeds and caching only a short window of the most recent data for each channel. When a subscriber makes a channel change, Entone’s devices send an RTCP request to the Edgeware Orbit server. The server then sends a pre-aligned unicast burst of data via UDP from the new channel. Regardless of the numbers of channels or users, the unicast traffic bursts are only generated between Entone’s device and Edgeware’s Orbit server instead of across the core or backhaul network. A live demo of Entone’s Hybrid TV and OTT solutions and Edgeware’s Orbit video server platform can be seen at the IP&TV World Forum in the Entone stand no. 33 and the Edgeware stand no. 167.

  • Grupo Voz is using encoder and decoder products from Teracue IPTV Systems. The products are being used for live TV contribution and for the connection of the different broadcast sites. With the ENC-200 encoders and DEC-200 decoders it is possible to send and to transmit video/audio signals in H.264 format over an IP connection. For the contribution and live links, a dedicated 3Mbps network connection is being used. Over this network, V Televisión is transmitting SDI broadcast signals and video feeds. Three DEC-200 decoders are installed in the central office, within the broadcast headquarters in A Coruña. The units are able to output a variety of signals simultaneously. The SDI output can directly be inserted into the broadcast signal workflow, while the Composite output can be used for monitoring. The ENC-200 H.264 encoders are installed in remote delegations as in Santiago de Compostela (Galicia) and in Vigo (Galicia). A third encoder is available for backup and occasional purposes. The units have been selected due to the stable and continuous operation mode, and due to the fact that the compact units operate without any moving parts, as they are fan less and noiseless. The sale and installation has been made by Video Digital through the system integrator NRDmultimedia in Spain, whose team has also handled the complete testing and is delivering the onsite service.
