Intelsat General—This Reorg Will Better Serve Our Customers (Business)

[SatNews] Intelsat General's President, Kay Sears, has outlined some changes within the organization that are of importance to the industry.

Intelsat General's President, Kay Sears.
She writes, "The across-the-board cutbacks in federal spending and the drawdown of troops in Afghanistan have presented challenges for all commercial companies providing satellite communications services to the U.S. government. At Intelsat General, we have responded by focusing on execution and working closely with our customers to maintain their networks and services more affordably. Internally we are concentrating on reducing expenses and synergizing resources, which has resulted in a recent reorganization. We have taken the opportunity presented by several timely departures of key staff to consolidate certain functions and streamline reporting structures.

"The hardest part of this for me is saying goodbye to people who have been instrumental in the great success of Intelsat General over the 5 years that I have been president:

  • Don Brown, our Vice President of Business Development and Hosted Payloads, was lured away by the Australian company NewSat to become that company’s senior vice president of strategic planning
  • Britt Lewis, Vice President of Strategic Planning for the past eight years, is moving to our parent company, Intelsat, to take the lead in developing overall corporate strategy
  • Tom Foust, Vice President of Sales, has departed to start his own business, something he has talked about often. And Richard Dal Bello, Vice President of Legal and Government Affairs, is going to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy

"The talent and broad experience that these four gentlemen brought to their jobs helped all of us at Intelsat, but their tenure was of even greater benefit to our customers. They will all be missed.

"However, given these changes, we have decided to combine sales, marketing, solutions development and business development under the leadership of one vice president. We believe this will both streamline the organization and lead to better service for our customers. Skot Butler has assumed this leadership role as Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Business Development.

"Skot is an industry veteran and has been with IGC since 2006 serving in both business and solution development roles. During that time, Skot has helped shape the strategies and lead the execution that resulted in key company successes such as the Australian Defence Forces hosted payload and the new FCSA contracts. Prior to joining IGC, Skot held leadership roles in sales and business development at Verestar, Spacelink, and DRS. Skot recently completed his MBA through Intelsat’s MBA scholarship program.

"Skot will try to meet with as many Intelsat General customers as possible over the coming months and will attend SATCON in New York and Global MILSATCOM in London in November as well as other industry events."
