Vislink News and Entertainment will exhibit its latest microwave communications product — the OB5000, a COFDM and high data rate modulator/demodulator with built-in video encoders and decoders supporting 4:2:2 SD and optional HD formats — at  Broadcast Asia.

Vislink’s OB5000 is a highly flexible digital portable microwave system designed to establish quick deployment Outside Broadcast (OB), Electronic News Gathering (ENG), or temporary fixed emergency restoration communications links. It is the first of the MRC portable microwave products to have full fingertip control via a graphical user interface. Its advanced Single Carrier Modem provides massive capacity for the transport of video, audio, and data — up to 105 Mbps with future upgrades to 135 Mbps (channel bandwidth dependent). It combines Vislink’s most powerful modulation architectures to provide exemplary processing power supporting the bit-rate intensive demands of High Definition video applications.

The OB5000 baseband units supply a wide variety of both video, audio, and data interfaces, up to four, that automatically switch to the proper interface required, based upon user defined pre-sets. This means, with the push of a button, the OB5000s internal data multiplexer matches the physical video, audio, or data interface with the corresponding desired mode of content transport, whether it’s using CODFM or Single Carrier Modem modulation. The baseband units are of a modulardesign, providing field swappable modules allowing the operator a choice of direct 70MHz IF throughput from an external modulator, internal MPEG Encoding/Decoding for both COFDM DVB-T, or SCM modulation and multiple video/audio data interfaces. The OB5000 baseband units typically integrate into Outside Broadcast trucks, where they fit neatly into a 3RU x half rack space.. They can also be used out of doors when installed in weather-resistance flight cases. Vislink delivers the OB5000 complete with remote control and monitoring using a Web interface , and touch screen GUI control.
