Thrane & Thrane...FAA OKs FANS Fly With The Falcon

[SatNews] They received their first STC (Supplemental Type Certificate) for installation and use aboard all

Falcon 900EX-EASy aircraft. The STC follows successful testing of Thrane & Thrane’s new RTCA DO-178B Level-D software and DO-254 Level-D hardware, which will allow for FANS (Future Air Navigation System), CPDLC (Controller Pilot Data Link Communications) and voice safety service operations via the system’s cockpit data and H+ voice channels.

Thrane & Thrane’s flagship AVIATOR 700D provides both Classic and SwiftBroadband services in one complete package and is fully FANS 1/A and CPDLC compliant. By satisfying forthcoming mandates for future air navigation, the integration of the new Level-D software and hardware will offer a straightforward upgrade for existing Level-E and Aero-HSD+ systems, making it a cost effective option for retrofit customers seeking to update their systems in-line with FANS and CPDLC.

“Receipt of the Falcon 900 STC is a key milestone in the launch of the new AVIATOR 700D, making it the most compact and lightweight system to offer both cockpit and cabin connectivity on the market today,” comments Kim Gram, Vice President, Aeronautical Business Unit, Thrane & Thrane. “The new Level-D software and hardware is set to significantly benefit pilots by enabling the system to offer new safety capabilities in-line with the latest FANS and CPDLC operations. In addition to these new capabilities, the AVIATOR 700D also supports a range of voice and data applications, providing built-in Wi-Fi capability for the connection of tablets and smartphones.”

Leading satellite communications equipment manufacturer, Thrane & Thrane offers a portfolio of SwiftBroadband solutions ranging from the AVIATOR 200, 300 and 350 to the AVIATOR 700, which supports a range of advanced applications including cockpit voice dialing, in-flight calling and internet browsing.
