[SatNews] Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS) has introduced the newest member of its Falcon III® tactical radio family -- the Falcon III® Low Profile RF-7800V-V511 vehicular/base VHF radio system.
Designed to fit into space-constrained military vehicles, the V511 is a fusion of the RF-7800V VHF Combat Net Radio with a 50-watt power amplifier, resulting in a radio form factor that is smaller and lighter than standard vehicular radio systems. The streamlined design of the V511 offers the same voice and data performance users have come to expect from the RF-7800V radio, including the transmission of high-speed data at rates up to 192Kbps – faster than any currently available VHF combat net radio.
In addition to the new radio, Harris announced software enhancements to the RF-7800V family of software defined radios. These radios now also include Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) capabilities for advanced Battle Management Systems (BMS), providing simultaneous time-critical situational awareness and voice communication to across networks of 64 radios, as well as a Free Channel Search capability for enhanced frequency agility in high-noise or jammed environments. The V511 provides continuous coverage in the VHF frequency band from 30 to 108 MHz. With 50 watts of output power, the V511 gives warfighters the ability to communicate more information at longer ranges with greater speed, mobility and reliability.
