Cisco intends to acquire privately-held ExtendMedia, a provider of software-based Content Management Systems (CMS) that manage the entire lifecycle of video content through monetization for pay media and ad-supported business models. ExtendMedia will enable Cisco to help service providers deliver multi-screen offerings as the market transitions to IP video. ExtendMedia brings to Cisco a strong software team that understands the complexities of delivering multi-screen video over IP networks. ExtendMedia's CMS software, which will integrate with Cisco's current IP video offerings, will be a core component of Cisco's next-generation video architecture. Together, Cisco and ExtendMedia will enable service providers to deploy a next-generation, end-to-end video architecture that delivers the best consumer experience with access to any content, over any network, on any device. Financial terms of the transaction are undisclosed. Upon the close of the acquisition, the majority of the ExtendMedia team will be integrated into Cisco's Service Provider Video Technology Group. The ExtendMedia Sales and Professional Services teams will integrate into the Cisco Sales and Advanced Services organizations.
SENSIO(r) Technologies Inc. (SENSIO) (TSX-V: SIO) has a new collaboration with Trident Microsystems Inc. (NASDAQ: TRID), a provider of 3D-capable STB and TV semiconductor solutions. Trident's system-on-chip (SoC) and discrete semiconductor solutions target the digital home entertainment environment, and the company will be integrating SENSIO® 3D technology into its products to reflect industry demand for a high-end 3D viewing experience in the home. First among the Trident products to feature SENSIO technology is the TV550 3D TV SoC, which will be followed by the release of new 3D chips, featuring SENSIO 3D, for 3D TVs. SENSIO 3D is a proprietary frame-compatible format for high-quality stereoscopic signal processing, easily integrated into TV products. Developed by SENSIO more than ten years ago and deployed in the field for seven years, this mature technology has been used in all commercial live 3D events produced around the world, and is the only proprietary format recognized by the live 3D industry.
At IFA 2010 in Berlin, TechniSat Digital GmbH will highlight its products for the German and European markets.
In Hall 1, Booth A.44, TechniSat Digital S.A. will present the highlights of its 2010 product range for OEM and project businesses, as well as reference products from customers that have benefited from TechniSat´s experience. TechniSat will demonstrate several new innovations, including the ISIO range of DVB/IP Hybrid products, PC products with 3D functionality, and the recently launched DVB-T2 STB for Freeview HD in the UK. With the ISIO product series, TechniSat is introducing IP reception to its multi-tuner IDTVs — providing a fourth content delivery format to the existing DVB-S, DVB-C and DVB-T reception. The MultyVision ISIO IDTVs feature eLED Technology and offer outstanding features and functionality, including DVR (Digital Video Recorder) and multimedia playback from external storage and networked PCs. The IP functionality provides UPnP/DLNA connectivity, HbbTV compatibility and widget support. Furthermore the range provides the TechniFamily feature, an extended EPG and Video On Demand support. Expanding on its extensive range of DVB PC products, TechniSat is launching two new PC products in 2010 — the SkyStar USB HD and the SkyStar 2 eXpress HD. Both products are designed for the reception of FTA satellite SD and HD programs for viewing, recording, and editing on a PC.
Supplied with DVBViewer TE2, the SkyStar products can be enabled to view 3D services such as the Astra 3D Promo channel on Astra 23.5 degrees East. A plug-in for DVBViewer TE2 processes the 3D transmission and presents 3D video that can be experienced using red/cyan anaglyph glasses.
Tvinci, the Pay-OTT video platform provider, has partnered with PeerTV, a developer of hardware and software solutions to the Internet-based TV market, to enable paid video platforms to be launched on PeerTV’s advanced STB. Through this partnership, online TV operators and content owners can launch Over-the-Top (OTT) video services to consumers via a PeerStation STB device using Tvinci’s complete end-to-end video platform. Tvinci's complete end-to-end platform is based on its MediaHub™ (back-end) and MediaStore™ (front-end) systems which are designed to fit any cross-device OTT requirements. Tvinci MediaHub is the core of Tvinci's platform, used for the management of video content, business rules and users on any internet device. Tvinci MediaStore is the consumer interface for the platform, designed around a set of APIs used in order to create storefronts on multiple connected devices. The joint solution will be presented at IBC2010 by both PeerTV (5.B09h) and by Tvinci (IP411/5.B09a), which will demonstrate its Pay-OTT video platform, showing a consistent experience working across PC, TV and mobile devices.
