There's a new variant of the Hellfire missile, especially developed to be carried and fired by UAVs, about to be deployed by the U.S. Army. These new
Hellfire missiles will be able to locate targets in a far broader area range with programming for direct, high, or low trajectory. Called the
P model, these missiles have already flown aboard
U.S.A.F. Predators and they will become part of the Army's
Extended Range Multi-Purpose Warrior UAV's munitions selection. Unique to this weapons system will be its ability to operate within a 360° degree arc around the UAV, meaning it will be possible for the Hellfire to actually fly behind the UAV and engage any target behind the aircraft.
