MDA — Ukraine To Receive The Benefit Of Canadian-Birthed Satellites

MDA Satellite Missions webpage MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA) announced a $270-million deal Tuesday with the National Space Agency of Ukraine (NSAU) to build and launch a communications satellite and ground-control centres for two other satellites. This is one of the largest orders in MDA’s history and comes less than a month after securing another satellite contract for $200 million from Russia.

As in the November deal with Russia, the bulk of the work will be conducted in Ste. Anne de Bellevue, said Don Osborne, president of MDA’s satellite division. The satellite will be used to broadcast television signals and for high-speed internet in Ukraine “and (in) surrounding areas” that are still under negotiation.
