ORBCOMM + Locas Traxx... A Fresh Start (M2M)

[SatNews] This tracking and information capability has productivity increase as a goal, as well as efficiency...

ORBCOMM Inc. and Locus Traxx will use the GSM communications service provided by global telecommunications provider, Vodafone, and ORBCOMM’s low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network to support Locus Traxx’s dual-mode SmartTraxx™ shipment monitoring, reporting and alerts solution. The SmartTraxx system ensures food safety and freshness by providing real-time information about the safety and security of shipments en route. The SmartTraxx system wirelessly reports shipment temperature, door open or closed, location, and security status from customer’s trailers, vessels or equipment via either GSM or satellite communications based on cost and coverage. Continuous access to this actionable data helps customers increase productivity and efficiency throughout the supply chain and make more informed business decisions. ORBCOMM will work with Vodafone, who will supply GSM connectivity and its M2M platform, to pursue further opportunities to deliver dual-mode services and help customers worldwide enable their M2M-based solutions. The unique combination of satellite and GSM technology provides customers with low-cost, flexible and reliable connected service for both fixed site and mobile tracking and monitoring applications. The robust dual-mode service will also enable customers to maximize coverage and economy and gain visibility and control over their assets anywhere in the world on demand.
