Nepal Telecom... Still Remote, But Connected (SATCOM)

[SatNews] National fixed and mobile operator Nepal Telecom (NT) has launched ADSL Internet services in the Manang district, one of the remotest regions in the country, The Himalayan Times reports. In the initial phase, NT has installed just 93 ADSL connections in the region. The new service will augment Manang’s existing telecoms access which is delivered through satellite, with plans to add microwave systems in the future. The state-owned operator and the government hope the addition of ADSL-based internet access will help promote tourism in the area. To date, NT has distributed more than 148,018 ADSL ports out of a targeted distribution of 156,152 ports, in more than 390 places throughout 70 districts of Nepal.
