[SatNews] Prisma's satellites left Sweden with the destination of Yasny, Russia, and will arrive late Wednesday afternoon with the launch scheduled for June 15.

The main objective of Prisma is to carry out technological flight demonstrations and maneuvring experiments, including techniques for guidance, navigation, control and sensors, for future space projects requiring formation flying and rendezvous.

In addition, Prisma has other tasks aimed to test new satellite technologies:

Those are:

• Flight qualification of a new propulsion system with an environmentally friendly propellant, HPGP (High Performance Green Propellant), developed by ECAPS, a subsidiary of the Swedish Space Corporation.
• Flight qualification of the elaborated data handling system and power system that flew onboard ESA’s lunar probe SMART-1, built by the Swedish Space Corporation. The data handling system is developed by the Swedish Space Corporation and the power system by Omnisys.
• Tests of a new ground system, RAMSES, developed by the Swedish Space Corporation. RAMSES has been used for tests of the satellites on ground and will be used for operations when the spacecraft are in orbit.
• Tests of silicon-based cold gas micro thrusters developed by NanoSpace, a subsidiary of the Swedish Space Corporation.
• Qualification of new onboard software using Matlab/Simulink and automatic code generation to an even higher degree than in the SMART-1 project. The Swedish Space Corporation has developed this software.

The satellite platform itself is state-of-the-art and suitable for other types of missions such as Earth observation.

Prisma is a Swedish-lead project mainly financed by the Swedish National Space Board, with experiment contributions from France, Germany and Denmark.
