Swedish space activities shall be in accordance with Parliament's intentions in 2009 as a strategic asset for the knowledge society, industrial competitiveness and to meet the needs of society. Social functions such as environmental and climate monitoring, disaster management and satellite navigation is dependent on a functioning space infrastructure. Increased surplus makes space activities socially critical. Each year, the state is investing about one billion in space. Space projects are often international and most of the state budget goes to the European Space Agency and the European Union.

National Audit Office has examined the two major space efforts launchers and satellite system Galileo, the future of the field of Earth observation, and the so-called code of conduct for space.

National Audit Office has also reviewed how the state-owned Swedish Space Corporation is managed. National's general conclusion is that the Swedish space activities as it is implemented today is not used as a strategic asset. Lack of holistic approach, together with a lack of monitoring means that the full potential is not exploited. For example, the owner's return for the Swedish Space Corporation is not adapted to the market where the company operates. It means that the company does not fully contribute to the Swedish aerospace business continued development.

National Audit Office believes that the government should base the implementation of the Swedish space activities in a broad approach that is anchored in users, and that a review of the organizational structure to be implemented.
