Ocean Blue Software + Renesas Electronics... Hybrid Heading Home (HbbTV)

[SatBroadcasting(tm)] Ocean Blue Software is collaborating with Renesas Electronics to port/integrate the Ocean Blue / Opera HbbTV solution to Renesas Electronics' EMMA(tm) 3SL/P HD SoC — the HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) port is scheduled for customer demonstration in January 2011.

This collaboration enables customers to develop a complete low-cost STB reference solution that accelerates the time-to-market of satellite or terrestrial broadcast services with over-the-top (OTT) services. The jointly developed solution combines Renesas Electronics' EMMA™3SL/P system-on-chip (SoC) and the Ocean Blue / Opera HbbTV software. It builds on the recently completed port of the Ocean Blue's Voyager HD and Sunrise DVB stacks. Renesas Electronics' EMMA3SL/P SoC is compliant with HD as well as the multi-format video support used for internet-protocol television (IPTV), which make it ideally suited for STB vendors to develop hybrid set top boxes at low cost. The integrated Ethernet and USB2.0 ports make it easy to include desirable features such as USB Media players and DVR supporting multiple video formats. Devices are available either as Free-to-Air or with advanced security features for Pay TV operators. The advanced security is already certified by leading Conditional Access Companies to protect against signal piracy. The EMMA3SL/P SoC device is available and in mass production from Renesas Electronics.
