Sisvel Technology... 3D + 2D Broadcasting, In But A Single Channel Of Bandwidth (SatBroadcasting™)

[SatNews] Sisvel Technology will demonstrate an entire 3D broadcasting chain at NAB2012—from 3D live content to video encoding and distribution—with...

...high-resolution 3D transmissions using the 3D Tile Format, which can be viewed also in 2D on a 2D TV set. Also on display at Sisvel Technology's booth will be an expanded range of 3D Tile Format-compatible set-top boxes (STBs), including Sim2's 3D Home DVB-T and 3D Home DVB-S, a decoder from Giada, and JUICE 3D, the new decoder from Antik Technology. Further STB product announcements are expected later in the year.

Sisvel Technology will present a greatly expanded catalog of 3D content. This library includes the new 3D program "My 3D Guide," a series of 24-minute guided tours of some of the world's most beautiful locations (Las Vegas, Hanoi, Amsterdam, Berlin); specials on the Holy Shroud of Turin and the Carnival of Venice; sporting events; fashion shows; and much more. The 3D Tile format is in use by broadcasters in Europe and Asia and Sisvel Technology's 3D Tile Format is a technology that offers significant advantages over current 3D transmission methods. Formatting stereoscopic images by integrating two 720p frames within a single 1080p frame, the 3D Tile Format provides better-quality images for 3D content and maintains backward compatibility, allowing viewers not equipped for 3D to view the transmission as 2D images on their HD sets. The reconstructed right and left images maintain their original 720p spatial and temporal resolution, giving viewers the full benefit of the original picture, and the transmission of both 2D and 3D can be achieved without the need for increased bandwidth.
