[SatNews] Nothing demonstrates approval better than a vote of confidence to retain a person in a particular title. And so it is with...

IVT iDirect, Inc. (iDirect), a company of VT Systems, Inc. (VT Systems), today announced that its Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Engineering, David Bettinger, has been re-elected to the board of directors of the Global VSAT Forum (GVF), the leading non-profit association serving the satellite communications industry. This is Bettinger’s second term serving on the GVF board, where he joins six other industry leaders in evaluating issues and formulating strategic perspectives on how best to address emerging business and technology opportunities. iDirect is a world leader in satellite-based IP communications technology.

In his position on the GVF Board, Bettinger will collaborate with fellow board members to promote greater awareness of VSAT while creating new initiatives for industry regulation, spectrum allocation and delivery technologies that will drive the industry forward.

Under Bettinger’s leadership, iDirect has been actively involved in the GVF, becoming the first VSAT manufacturer to have its technology training included in the GVF VSAT Installation & Certification Program. iDirect is also a member of the GVF Disaster Preparedness Registry, contributing technology to aid global relief efforts such as those following the Haiti earthquake. More recently, iDirect was instrumental in creating the Maritime Satcom Forum, a focused group within GVF that promotes Maritime VSAT through training, regulatory advocacy and outreach to shipping interests. Moving into the future, Bettinger will be a key contributor supporting GVF’s role in defining the requirements for Ka-band connectivity around the globe.

Bettinger has been an active member of the satellite communications industry for over 20 years. In his current role as Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Engineering, he is responsible for the oversight of all technology decisions within iDirect and serves to drive the strategic direction for the company.

The VSAT industry is experiencing tremendous growth and maturity, as new technologies and new opportunities continue to redefine how we view and use satellite communications. The GVF’s role is more necessary than ever, helping service providers and technology manufacturers heighten awareness of satcom in key markets, strengthen advocacy efforts and expand education at the end-customer level. Dave has been a key contributor to our success and we are looking forward to continuing to benefit from his knowledge, experience and insight.” SaidDavid Hartshorn, Secretary General, Global VSAT Forum.

I am very pleased to be given the opportunity to continue my role on the GVF Board of Directors. The GVF has and will continue to be the de facto association for satellite communications as our industry develops new strategies and methods for delivering satcom — Ka-band being one of the more recent examples.  I am eager to continue working alongside my colleagues in understanding and evaluating new technologies and applications that will drive further expansion of the VSAT market.” AddedDavid Bettinger, CTO and SVP of Engineering, iDirect,
