Romantis + SES—All About African Access (SATCOM)

[SatNews] Romantis will be providing a gateway solution, Romantis' Universal Hardware Platform (UHP) with all operation modes, on SES’ NSS-12 Ku-band beam in East Africa.

The gateway solution, offered from SES partner teleport in Djibouti, is well-suited for IP connectivity as well as for customized corporate network services in East Africa and can be used by local VNOs. The powerful, state-of-the-art NSS-12 satellite provides comprehensive and robust coverage over the fast-growing South Asian and East African markets. The spacecraft covers the entire Eastern Hemisphere, bringing increased capacity and transmission power at the key orbital location of 57 degrees east.

The award-winning UHP series of VSAT networking products, manufactured by Romantis, is known for its high-processing capability and unique versatility and scalability. The Romantis UHP is the industry’s first fully software-defined, high-throughput VSAT router, which can be used in a network of any size and any topology either as remote or a building block of a VSAT hub. These solutions have been deployed in almost 100 networks by Tier 1 telecom service providers, broadcasters and government agencies. The new high-throughput VSAT router UHP-200 will be introduced later this year.

The UHP-200 is designed to work with the latest generation of high-throughput satellites (HTS) using multi-beam antennas as well as with traditional satellites and larger spot beams. The UHP-200 fully supports Dynamic Network Layout (DNL). This function of Romantis networks rapidly adapts the network topology–SCPC DAMA to Hubless TDMA to Hub-centric TDM/TDMA–to any changes in the application scenario, traffic load, terminal location or satellite coverage. The trademark Romantis architecture can instantaneously switch between TDMA and SCPC modes of operations, without losing any traffic.

“SES is further extending its partnership with Romantis by working together with them to offer a managed solution at the SES partner teleport in Djibouti. With our powerful NSS-12 satellite and scalable Romantis’ UHP product, affordable high-speed satellite networks in East Africa is now a reality," said Ibrahima Guimba-Saidou, Senior Vice President, Africa for SES.

Dr. Harald W. Stange, CEO of Romantis GmbH, said, "The UHP networks have been deployed by a number of Tier 1 telecom operators worldwide. We are pleased to extend our co-operation with SES to Africa and contribute to a roll-out of VSAT services in Eastern African regions."
